Alan Lomax and the forgotten era of American music

The rich history of American folk music is on offer in an exhibition this month, thanks to Eric Isaacson of Mississippi Records. Called I DOn’t Feel at Home in this World Anymore, it unearths the archives of Alan Lomax’s North American travels between the 70s and 80s, surfacing an enormous library of folk blues, gospel, country and more. Our very own Aussie singer-songwriter legend, Darren Hanlon joined us to share the importance of reviving this overlooked era of music. Tickets are sold out at the Golden Age Cinema, however Darren’s special screening will feature 12 minutes of Lomax’s footage tonight at Newtown Social Club.
