Amelia Telford – Environmental legend

What were you doing at 21? Perhaps you were testing how hard you could party, fighting with useless share house-mates or working your first real job. You probably weren’t the recipient multiple environmental awards and the founder of Australia’s first Indigenous youth climate network.

Amelia Telford is a young Bundjalung woman from Tweed Heads campaigning for climate justice, particularly for Indigenous people.

Amelia was awarded National NAIDOC Youth of Year in 2014, Bob Brown’s Young Environmentalist for the Year 2015 and Australian Geographic Young Conservationist of the Year 2015 for her commitment to building a more just and sustainable future for all young people.

She is appearing THIS SUNDAY at the Sydney Opera house for the All About Women Festival. She is appearing with young Canadian indigenous woman Crystal Lameman in a piece called “We belong to the land.” Amelia joined Mitch for a chat this morning
