Why do Australians distrust politicians and public servants?

Public commentator and community change agent Eva Cox believes that a “distrust epidemic” exists in Australia. A study by the Museum of Australian Democracy shows that the majority of Australians would rather not vote for any political party, and are exhibiting the lowest level of trust in government since 1993. What’s at the root of these damaging perceptions? Could it be the privatisation of public services, like electricity?
