How can we improve Census data collection for indigenous communities?

To mark NAIDOC week, we’ve invited a former head of the Australian Bureau of Statistics to help us analyse what the new Census data means for our indigenous communities.

Dennis Trewin was the head of the ABS between the years 2000 and 2007. He was one of five members of the 2016 Census independent assurance panel, which was responsible for checking how the latest count was conducted, and for making sure the data was reliable.

Myles Houlbrook-Walk talked about undercounting for indigenous people and why that’s on the rise, even though broadly, for all Australians, it’s decreasing.
