Integrating renewable energy into the built environment

When you think of electricity production, you probably picture giant power plants situated far away from bustling cities. But as Australia attempts to transition to a low carbon economy, it’s vital that we start thinking of new ways to seamlessly merge renewable energy technology with our built environment to maximise electricity production. More than just slapping solar panels on a roof, new technology such as solar wrapping and solar panels have the capacity to turn any surface into a power source.

Tony Matthews, an Urban & Environment Planner at Griffith University, explained how we can transform our urban spaces, both old and new, for a greener future.
