Can Kids Tell Real News from Fake?

The amount of fake news now circulating across social media platforms is staggering. We struggle to distinguish it from real news even as adults, so how much more difficult is it for younger Australians?

Dr. Tanya Notley, Senior Lecturer at Western Sydney University, joined Nic this morning to discuss the alarming findings of a survey she’s contributed to, which suggest kids may not be equipped with the ability to tell apart real and fake news.

Dr Notley’s work also showed that younger Australians might not be as focused on social media as we’d previously believed and highlighted the need for critical thinking about the media to be a regular part of both school and the home.
