Dictionary of Sydney: History Week

History Week is coming up, taking place over the first week of September, and the theme is popular culture!

One of the featured events involves joining history writer Cathy Perkins as she takes a glimpse into the Australian Woman’s Mirror, a popular women’s magazine during the 1920s and 30s, and its editor, Zora Cross. The magazine’s aim was to provide a platform for female writers and to connect them with female readers.

The Dictionary of Sydney’s Dr Nicole Cama joined Tess to chat more about the magazine and how, without Zora Cross’s entertaining profiles of women writers in the magazine, there’d be little to no trace of these writers in literary history. Information about History Week and upcoming events can be found on the History Council of NSW’s website.
