The Effects of Gentrification on Our Schools

When we think about gentrification, we usually picture an image of a formerly run-down urban area that has become the new “hot” spot for hip cafes and housing. What we might not think about is how gentrification may, in fact, be increasing inequality and division. One way we can see this unfolding is by looking at local schools. Researchers have noted that the influx of middle-class Anglo-Australians into what are traditionally working-class, migrant areas has led to a polarisation between and within schools.
