How to get nurses engaged in research

When it comes to healthcare, you would hope that was is happening in hospitals and aged care is evidence based.

But that’s not always the case, as doctors and nurses get stuck in the trap of “this is the way we do things”.

And, there’s also a lack of interest when it comes to reading and analysing research papers.

Caleb Ferguson and Louise Hickman from UTS set out to change this among post graduate nursing students. They set up what’s called a “Twitter journal club” to see if they could improve student’s engagement and understanding of research papers.

Speakers:
Louise Hickman – Associate Professor, Faculty of Health University of Technology Sydney
Caleb Ferguson – Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Graduate School of Health University of Technology Sydney
