The housing crisis affecting Australia’s ageing population

The cost of Sydney living is expensive – rent is high, house hunting is becoming tougher competition and more people are getting into and getting stuck in the rental market.

And where things seem grim for the upcoming generations’ likelihood of owning their own property, todays older Australians are facing their own dilemmas.

Author of ‘The Australian Dream: Housing Experiences of Older Australians’ Alan Morris interviewed private renters, social housing tenants and homeowners around Sydney comparing their experiences of living, for some of which is highly stressful and difficult day to day.

Speakers:

  • Alan Morris – Professor in the Institute for Public Policy and Governance at the University of Technology Sydney.

Producer: Jake Morcom.
