The mysterious case of the disappearing bees

It’s a fairly well-known fact that the bees are disappearing – the diversity of wild bee species is dropping radically and not enough commercial honeybee populations are surviving through the winter each year.

It’s been 10 years since American beekeepers alerted the world to Colony Collapse Disorder and our understanding of it has improved a lot since then, but bee colonies are still under threat.

Dr Andrew Barron from Macquarie University explains the complex factors contributing to colony collapse worldwide and what regular Aussies can do to help.
