Alternative Radio is an award winning one-hour public affairs program providing information, analyses and views that are frequently ignored or distorted in the corporate media.

Established in 1986 by award winning author and journalist David Barsamian, AR is dedicated to the founding principles of public broadcasting, which urge that programming serve as "a forum for controversy and debate," be diverse and "provide a voice for groups that may otherwise be unheard." 

In 1997 Alternative Radio (Australia) was established to distribute the program here is Oz. AR's Australian distributor and producer, Shane Elson (from Victoria's 3GCR-FM) has also produced a range of programs of national significance which are included in the Australian Alternative Radio catalogue. These programs have featured such speakers as John Pilger, Julian Burnside, Humphrey McQueen, Hanan Ashrawi and Tariq Ali. 

Spanning the full range of political, social and environmental issues, AR provides informed, intellectually stimulating and entertaining debate on the issues that affect all of us as residents of the global village. AR is currently broadcast on over 125 stations on four continents, reaching an audience of millions.
