Rethinking how we diagnose psychiatric disorders

Is the way we diagnose psychiatric disorders out of date?

Innovation in health science is changing the way we understand brain function and mental health, but are certain diagnoses putting some at a disadvantage?

An event held at the University of Technology Sydney brought together professionals from a range of backgrounds, both clinical and otherwise, to address how we diagnose psychiatric disorders and also what Australia can take from other countries such as the United States and UK when it comes to mental health diagnosis.

Speakers:

  • Martyn Pickersgill – Welcome Trust Reader in Social Studies of Biomedicine in Edinburgh Medical School.
  • Karen O’Connell – Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Technology Sydney.
