Sleeping rough through Sydney’s winter

IN 2016, the City of Sydney’s biannual street count recorded its highest ever tally of rough sleepers, and the stats aren’t any better this year. Emergency accommodation is at capacity and the waiting list for affordable housing continues to grow.

Nic talked to Senior Policy and Research Officer Digby Hughes from peak not-for-profit organisation Homelessness NSW about why winter is a particularly perilous time for rough sleepers in our community.

Whilst additional money has been committed to addressing homelessness in the latest State Budget, there remains a clear lack of accommodation for low income earners in Sydney and across NSW.
