Smart garbage bins could mean less waste to landfill

You’ve probably heard of smart cities, but have you heard of smart bins?

A group of students from the University of Technology Sydney recently participated in a hackathon, devising an idea to embed our garbage bins with smart sensor technology.

By chipping the bins, you could collect data on how much waste they’re holding, when they’re reaching capacity and when they should be relined.

The goal was to think of efficient ways to reduce the amount of waste in green spaces, and ultimately reduce the number of half empty garbage bags going straight to disposal.
