2SER relies heavily on dedicated volunteers to keep 2SER broadcasting loud and clear. We're always looking for good people to volunteer and contribute to the station.
You will need to be reliable and able to confidently take on responsibility. With only a small staff and a high level of activity at the station, you need to be able to show initiative and commitment, both to the station's philosophical objectives and to contributing to station life.
Broadcast : Music
If you have an idea for a music show, drop us a line, let us know who you are and what it is, and any previous radio experience you might have. You might be an experienced broadcaster with a great proposal that would suit what SER does, or have an idea for a show we don't currently have. Think diverse, broad-reaching and what kind of content you could offer (interviews, segments etc), as well as the kind of commitment you could realistically give to the station week to week, and for how long. Broadcast : Talks
We are always looking out for good spoken word content. This could be in the form of an interview, a feature or documentary, or whatever. Listen to the station. Breakfast, Overdrive and Morning Magazine shows all contain talks content, or to check out when specific talks programs are on see Talks. 2SER's talks programs must be informative, well researched and thought provoking. Tell us what your story ideas are. If it's good it will end up on air. Check out our news & current affairs guidelines (48k pdf).
New volunteers (previous radio experience not necessary) are also invited to contribute to our programs in order to develop broadcasting skills.
Contributions may include segment production, one off productions, research, panel operation or production. Email mark at 2ser dot com with any queries.
Non broadcast
There are many ways you can help out at the station, from answering the phones & stuffing envelopes, to helping on the music library. You could assist in organizing a fundraiser, distributing flyers, design, marketing and promotions. Whatever your skill or expertise is - we may be able to use it.Email programmanager@2ser.com with any queries.
What to do
Send in a 1-2 page outline telling us about yourself - your skills, interests, media or community experience, why you want to be a volunteer at 2SER and what you would like to do.
More importantly: listen to the station and propose a specific radio idea
If it's talks you want to do, give us a couple of story ideas - include details like what topic you want to cover, who you'd talk to, how you'd approach your story.
For a music program - send in a demo tape. The demo should be more than just a DJ mix - include your presentation style or how it works as a radio program.
Please include information that tells us why your program should be on 2SER and what you hope it will achieve.

Please note - the demand for volunteer places at the station is far greater than our capacity to meet it, the selection process therefore can be

2SER-FM provides free training for all station volunteers.
Training covers radio journalism, music programming, documentary production and technical operations and production including digital technology.
