Tuesday Book Club: The TV adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale

Changing the pace this week, Final Draft’s Andrew Pople and Nic sit down to discuss the popular adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. Streaming currently on SBS demand, the series has been a huge success at depicting the theme of conservative power, drawing a connection to the present political and social climate in America.

While the series alters the time structure to the original piece, it allows for a new take and stance on the classic tale. Taking a slightly more modern approach, the series still stays true to the themes of dystopia, conservatism and gender roles.

As aspects of the series may be debated by fans of the popular novel, such as the choice of soundtrack, the boys still have hopes for the adaptation. While Andrew hasn’t been able to catch onto the binge-watching trend, the adaptation is definitely recommending as something to look out for! Listen back to hear the full review!
