Voyage of the Southern Sun: Michael Smith’s solo world flight

Back in 2015 Michael Smith finished up renovating the much-loved Sun Cinema in Melbourne and decided he needed a break. Rather than put his feet up, he took his tiny sea plane, the Southern Sun, and he circumnavigated the globe, following the traditional sea planes stops of yesteryear.

The amazing feat earned him not only the title of Australian geographic Adventurer of the Year in 2016, but also a starring role in a documentary about the feat called Voyage of the Southern Sun. He also wrote a book of the same name going into even more detail, based on his blog posts during the journey and his detailed private notes.
