We give a FIG!

If you are driving past Anzac parade today look out for a big protest. On Monday, an earlier protest held to save Moreton Bay FIg Trees on Anzac Road resulted in police forcibly removing people and a local school teacher and mother of two was arrested.

At 1.38 yesterday morning a significant and heritage listed Moreton Bay Fig Tree was chainsawed down. The nineteenth century tree planted by Charles Moore, Lord Mayor of Sydney, was now a pile of branches.

The trees in question are heritage fig trees but stand in the way of the new light rail construction.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore has become involved in the cause stating that she stands by that “we are not against the light rail, we are against bad planning.”

To get the latest we are joined by John Bellamy from the Sydney Light Rail Action Group with us on the line.
