We have a friend in phytoplankton

Often when we talk about ocean wildlife our attention is drawn to the larger species including whales, sharks and fish.

But the ocean also homes some of the smallest organisms on the planet, and in this case, size really does not matter.

Phytoplankton produce more than 50% of the world’s oxygen through photosynthesis AND are the bottom level of the oceanic food chain.

So why is nobody talking about them?
