Real war vibes! Sound clash in the dancehall by admin — last modified 08 Jan 2007 14:08
The first ever international reggae sound clash down under sees Australia buck up against New Zealand as Sydney's Fire House meets the Jafa Mafia from Auckland on January 13, 2007 at The Marquee. The Jafa Mafia is an Auckland sound system established in 2003 by DJs Tobi and Captain Midnite. From their 95bfm.co.nz radio show 'Thunder & Joy' the pair found a shared passion for ‘proper’ bashment reggae and mad dancehall. Tobi is NZ born and London raised, originates from the London free party/rave and nightclub scene having played most contemporary genres of dance music now focusing on dancehall, dubstep/grime and jungle. Selector Midnite hails from Hungary and developed his love of Jamaican music whilst living in Rome checking One Love HP weekly. The Mafia includes Flowzion and Tuff Enchant taking up the mic. Having warmed up last year alongside Kyabamba Sound (Swiss) and Worries Outernational Sound (Ireland), the Jafas are ready to test the mighty Fire House inna proper clash fashion. Early warm-up vibes are from Spikey Tee who will also host the clash. The sounds start playing at 11pm sharp, with progressively shorter rounds culminating in the 'dub for dub' killing round. The judge and jury are the massive in the dance - so make a noise for the sound that plays the best! Dance runs 9pm til 3am at The Marquee, corner Pyrmont Bridge Road and Parramatta Road, Camperdown. Entry is $15 at the door, 2SER members get in for $10. Fire House will step across the border for the return clash in Auckland on February 17. http://www.firecorner.com
