Where Are The Women In Jazz?

Jazz. We hear it all the time, and many of us have come to recognise classic standards and tunes whether we realise it or not. We know of musicians such as Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald, while Australian artists such as Kate Cebrano, have become household names. But did you know, that in today’s industry, women have become largely under represented. Whether it be as singers, instrumentalists or composers; we see fewer females taking the lead; and so we are left to ask – where are the women in Jazz? Joining us on the line to discuss this, was Professor Cat Hope, Head of the Sir Zelman Cowan School of Music at Monash University.
