Will more rigourous selection criteria for teaching students improve teaching quality?

Teaching standards have been an issue for discussion in recent years with concerns over the quality of candidates being admitted into university teaching courses. This had prompted the move to introduce certain minimum requirements for prospective teaching students. To discuss this issues and more, we were joined on the line by Dr Tony Loughland, Senior Lecturer in the School of Education at the University of New South Wales.
