Federal Government releases new cyber security strategy, aims to be world leader in field

Today marks the release of the 2023-2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy. Aiming to boost the 2.3 billion dollars already invested in cyber security strategies, this new policy provides a 589.6 million dollar bump in funding. This funding boost will be primarily used to provide support for small-to-medium businesses and individuals vulnerable to a cyber attack. Telecommunications companies will also be held to the same standards as proposed by the new policy, as well as establishing consumer standards for security.

In the wake of the Medibank, Optus and Australian National University data breaches in recent years, the Albanese government has been working to strengthen cyber security policy in order to mitigate the damage to infrastructure and the day to day lives of Australians. This strategy also aims to put Australia at the forefront of cyber security development and legislation in order to set a precedent in addressing the growing threat to national security.
