A second Stolen Generation?

This week, Shadow Minister for Indigenous Australians, Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, told the ABC there should not be rules to return children in foster care to their kin.

Experts are concerned with the newly-appointed Minister’s comments, saying this will make things worse in Aboriginal communities. In the Northern Territory for instance, 81 per cent of children removed from their families are First Nations.

An Indigenous leader in mental health says Australia risks another Stolen Generation if the opposition’s calls to scrap kinship ties for children in foster care are ever adopted. The Wire’s contributor from Ngaarda Media, Eliza Kloser, asked Nyamal and Jilya Institute Director, Psychologist Dr Tracy Westerman, why children removal figures are so disproportionate.
