AI and bees: a game changing solution to better fruit farming

Do you like strawberries? Well, you can thank the humble bee for that. Bees and other insects are essential to farming high quality fruit.

The process of bee pollination is crucial to a good crop. Too many, or too few bees during the pollination process can result in poorer quality harvests.

So how do farmers ensure that there are the right amount of pollinators on their farm? We spoke to a scientist who has successfully invented AI – or Artificial Intelligence – software that is helping to improve this process.

Malika Nisal Ratnayake is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University. He gave us the scoop on his new software that uses AI to track the behaviour of bees and other insect pollinators.
