Victorian Muslim Community Calls For Peace

Tensions have reached boiling point over the weekend, resulting in far-right rallies targeting ethnic minorities in Melbourne’s St Kilda Beach.

Only yesterday, hundreds of far-right and anti-fascist protesters faced off in a passionate demonstration of ideas, with protestors declaring that:

“The revolution will eventually start. People have had enough of these people and they have got to be sent back to where they came from.”

As the scene quickly turned violent, Police were fast to arrive where several arrests were made.

Today we were joined by Soofi Aziz, Secretary of External Affairs for The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Victoria.  Yesterday, they released a statement expressing concern for the safety of their community and others in ethnic or religious minorities in Victoria in light of the weekend’s violent rallies.
