Australia’s Electricity Sector needs to cut carbon by 45% by 2030.

A report by ClimateWorks Australia, released on Tuesday of last week has modelled the emissions reduction target of Australia, that is to be met by the year 2030. This however differs quite significantly from the renowned Finkel review. The ClimateWorks report through it’s extensive analysis stated that at least 45% of carbon emissions should be cut by 2030, in order to meet Australia’s net zero emissions targets by the year 2050.

Current government policies however are well below in developing and modelling processes that can achieve such a reduction in carbon emissions and the broader question remains as to how this target can be achieved in an economically stable way and correspond to Australia’s climate targets. Myles Houlbrook-Walk was joined by Research Projects Manager at ClimateWorks Australia, Wei Sue to discuss more about this issue.
