Is Australia’s taste in music too Americanized?

Earlier this week marked the 44th Annual Music Awards, which aired with an all time low TV rating of 8.3 million American viewers. While it aims at celebrating American Music, it also recognises foreign talent, which sparks the question, how heavily do we rely on Americanisation to validate our own consumer culture? Adjunct Professor Stephen Alomes from RMIT University spoke to The Daily in regards to Australia’s musical output and whether American influences have been felt too heavily.
