Centenary of Cải Lương

For the last 100 years, Vietnam has been enjoying and refining their version of musical theater, cải lương. The unique style has evolved over the years to include all forms of music from classical operas to rap. With its origins in French and other European theatre, cải lương has grown in to something iconic, noted for improvisational moments that keep things fresh for global audiences night after night.

This month, the Association of Vietnamese Performing Artists Australia is hosting a centenary celebration for Cải Lương. Jess sat down with Le-Tuyen Nguyen & Truong Quang Minh to talk about the upcoming celebrations and the history of the genre. You can find out more about the centenary celebrations on the 10th November by visiting the website for the event.
