Cuts to JobSeeker a ‘Cruel Policy’ says Welfare Expert

It’s estimated over 1.5 million Australians are now reliant on JobSeeker and Youth Allowance, amidst job losses and financial hurdles borne out of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last week the Morrison government announced JobSeeker would be extended until March, instead of it’s original Christmas expiry date. However the rate will reduce by $100 a fortnight from December.

The Monday Daily was joined by Dr Peter Davidson, Principal Advisor at the Australian Council of Social Services to discuss what that means for Australians reliant on income support.
