Cybercrime in Australia

Did you know that Australia has an online self-reporting tool to help you tackle Cybercrime? Cybercrime isn’t just the crazy hacker-wars you see in the movies, it’s also the simple digital crimes that can cross your path any day, from computer viruses, to cyber bullying, to phishing emails asking you to help out your distant relative in Nigeria, so it could be more relevant to you than you realise. The Australian Online Cybercrime Reporting Network, or ‘ACORN‘, is a government-backed system launched in 2014, where you can officially report any case of Cybercrime you come across. The Australian Institute of Criminology recently released a study on the way that Cybercrime is handled, and Dr. Cassandra Cross, senior lecturer in Criminology at the Queensland University of Technology called in to the show to talk about the challenges ACORN tackles as well as the details of the report.
