Have you ever heard of a reformatory? It’s a halfway house for wayward children, and there used to be one in Vaucluse. The Shaftesbury Reformatory house for Girls operated between 1880 and 1904. Discipline was strict, and the Matrons were often stricter. Nicole from the Dictionary of Sydney shares stories about the history of the site and the people who stayed there.
