Dictionary of Sydney: Peapes Menswear Store

An unusual discovery was made in Wynyard after the Menzies Hotel was demolished: a large painted advertisement for Peapes Menswear Store, which operated from 1866-1971.

Outdoor advertising was one of the first types of advertising introduced in Sydney. By the 1850s, bill posters were commonplace and the cheapest way for business owners to advertise their businesses.

Dr Lisa Murray from the Dictionary of Sydney spoke to Nic more about the discovery, and ways of conserving it.
