Duck Bills to Pay As Platypuses Face Extinction

This may come as a surprise, but Australia currently has the worst mammal extinction rates on earth. This story featured the incredibly unique platypus. While they’re not officially listed as a threatened species, two platypuses have been found dead in dried up creeks in NSW. It’s a big warning sign that we need to do more. We’ve seen the devastating impact bushfires have had on our koalas, and now new research shows that the platypus is also under extreme threat (even if it’s not labeled as such).

The Daily was joined by Dr Gilad Bino, Research Fellow from the UNSW Center for Ecosystem Science, to talk more about our poor duck-billed friends.
