The end of an era as Sydney’s iconic The Basement to shut doors

After 45 years of local talent and international headliners including Prince, Neil Diamond and Herbie Hancock, Sydney’s oldest licensed music venue, The Basement at Circular Quay, is set to close following confirmation by venue management.

Questions were raised after the announcement of the final Monday Jam at the venue, a popular live session for jazz, funk and R&B, with the iconic setting providing an intense, intimate atmosphere.

Music lovers have been paying tribute as The Basement’s closure sent shock waves throughout the Sydney music scene and beyond.

Nic was joined by Danny G Felix of the Jam’s house band, The New OJeez, to talk about playing at The Basement, the venues legacy and what’s next for the popular Jam session.
