Jane Needham

Law is a very practical degree; but Jane Needham came to the profession via a very unconventional route.

Jane started out studying Medieval English, and moved into law after working with her father who was a judge in the Supreme Court.

Her speciality is equity, an area of law that allows people to find remedies when the common law is too harsh, and succession law.

Jane has been involved in the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Abuse as Senior Counsel for the Truth Justice and Healing Council. She was also President of the NSW Bar Association in 2014/2015.

Jane speaks to Ellen Leabeater about making law a more attractive profession for women and what attracts her to equity.

Jane is the recipient of a 2015 UTS Alumni Award. The UTS Alumni Awards celebrate UTS grads doing incredible things in their field and the community. If you know someone who deserves to be recognised, nominate them for a 2016 award before May 20.
