Coming up on 2ser’s Curved Radio this Sunday, mr.K flys solo in this week’s episode. This week he’ll feature a few new releases from indie French label, Born Bad Records – from outfits, Cyril Cyril (Switzerland), Star Feminine Band (Africa) and bandleader, Benny Bennett from Born Bad’s fabulous ‘Cha Cha Au Harem’ compilation of Exotica/Orientica from 1960 – 1964.
He also takes a deep dive with a 35 minute feature into the extraordinary 1975 recording from the legendary Miss Peggy Lee called, ‘Mirrors’. With a suite of songs written by songwriting legends, Mike Stoller & Jerry Lieber backed by an 82 piece orchestra and arrangements by the great Johnny Mandel, mr.K delves deep some of the songs and background behind this unique album in Peggy lee’s career. As one fan says, “Its like a scandalous novel when you think about it!” mr.K couldn’t agree more.
He also has a very curvylicious selection of tracks lined up from : Jimmy Scott, Tom Zé, A Certain Ratio, Andrew Kotting and Oliver Cherer via Invada, jazz trombonist Rita Payés, Amy Winehouse, the fabulous Noga Erez via City Slang, Green Gartside (Scritti Politti), Julie London, Anna B Savage via City Slang, Die Hexen, curvy faves Annabel (lee), Elephant Stereo, Poly Styrene/X Ray Spex and Brooklyn based jazz musician, Melanie Charles to keep the curves curving!
