Shan & OB chop it up with Ivan Conti from Brazilian jazz-funk legends, Azymuth. To give those that may not know some context, Azymuth got their start back in the 1960’s and maintained a foothold throughout the 70’s and 80’s due to their astonishing “ahead of its time” music that was one part “abstract” and another part “groovy” for the dance floors. They’ve recorded with the likes of Stevie Wonder, George Duke and Chick Corea and after a split in the 1980’s, the group would come back in the mid-1990’s and have been touring, playing and recording their special blend of jazz-fusion ever since. Their story is told amidst a stack of their classic material, plus the boys play 2 sets of Azymuth inspired Brazilian, latin, bossa nova, baile funk and jazz-fusion material to make this one a chin-stroking, booty shaking affair.

Sample spotters…

We kick off the show this week with this amazing turn from Azymuth. Not so much a sample, but it can be considered a Brazilian anthem because of home many equally incredible versions there are. Originally written and performed by Milton Nascimento. Also check out versions by Simone, and Lo Borges, and Shimi Sonic.

DJ Shan presents a mastermix of Funk, Soul, Hip Hop, Beats, Disco, House and everything
in between, every Friday at midday – now in its 19th year!
