Czechoslovakian psych special!

Along with Hungary, the former Czechoslovakia seems to be one of the more liberal minded Eastern Bloc countries in terms of pop and psychedelic music being made in the ’60s and ’70s. Though music was routinely banned by the Communist government due to lyrical content (much of it not released until the fall of the Iron Curtain in the ’90s) there was a healthy pop music scene that allowed space for psychedelic exploration.

After a show in Prague by UK band The Nice, the early prog experiments of blending classical music with pysch became popular and lead into a thriving prog scene.

A good primer on finding out more about this scene is this article on the great It’s Psychedelic Baby Magazine site.
