Typically, if the term folk music was pinned on a song, it would be associated with older means to storytelling, roots of nationalism and traditional means of performance. Over the past decade, folk has become more experimental with audience inclusion and musical hybridity, blurring the lines of what currently defines the genre. This appeal has led to the increase of its popularity within the modern music scene, joining us on the line to discuss this was Dr Graeme Smith, Lecturer in Musicology at Monash University.
