Fighting chronic disease in the country through new healthy eating program

If you had visited the Western Victorian shire of Yarriambiack prior to 2015, we highly doubt you would have seen fruits, vegetables and wholegrains in the local meals made. Members of the community were drinking soft drinks each day smoking at a rate that was almost twice the state average. It was the most obese district in Victoria with the highest risk of chronic disease and some of the worst heart disease outcomes. In order to combat this wave of preventable disease, the YChange program was created. Today on The Daily to discuss this grassroots campaign we were joined by Jill Whelan, Deakin University research fellow and program creator.
