Forget heatwaves, our cold houses are much more likely to kill us

There is a strong perception that exists amongst many Australians the hot climate and dry weather conditions that we experience is more dangerous to our health than cold weather. Well, mortality data that has been collected… states that colder months present a far greater risk to our health than hotter months in Australia. What is most intriguing about colder months and periods in Australia is that our houses are some of the coldest in the world., but how does cold housing itself contribute to increasing the risk to our health and wellbeing? Lyrian Daniel is an ARC Research Assistant from the School of Architecture and Built Environment at the University of Adelaide and joined The Daily to discuss this and plenty more.
