Foster Care Appeal

Over the last 21 years, the number of children in out-of-home care in NSW has risen from 5,500 to 21,000. At the same time, the number of willing Foster Carers has been in decline.

Just last month, the NSW Government handed down it’s ‘Their Futures Matter’ report, which listed the benefits to children, as well as the economic benefits to the taxpayer, when children live with in-home foster carers.

The Marrickville out-of-home care agency is currently making a Christmas appeal to Sydneysiders “who cares for child welfare” and “who has a spare room” to consider becoming foster carers. We spoke to Lorraine Murphy, the agency’s project manager.
