The Future of Australia’s Music Industry

There has been a dramatic shift in the music industry over the past 10 years. We have seen the top 40 music charts give way to algorithms and big data which can now determine the popularity and airtime that an artist or an album receives.

A group of academics from Queensland University of Technology are currently working on a research project that will be looking at how big data has changed the music game for consumers, artists and music management and what these changes will mean for the Future of Australia’s Music Industry.

To find out more about this research project The Daily spoke with Professor Patrik Wikstrom, Head of School for the Creative Industries Faculty & School of Communication at Queensland University of Technology.
