The future of offshore processing on Manus Island

The Supreme Court of Papua New Guinea has deemed the Manus Regional Processing Centre to be illegal, and has ordered its immediate shutdown.

In a statement, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has ordered the Australian government to find alternative arrangements for the asylum seekers already at the centre.

Madeline Gleeson of the Andrew & Renata Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law at UNSW joined The Daily to discuss the court ruling, the refugees and the future of Manus Island.
