Is the Gender Pay Gap Still An Issue?

8th September was Equal Payday 2016, a day acknowledging the earnings gap that still exists between women and men in the workforce here in Australia and around the world. The figure we often hear quoted is that women earn 79 cents to the dollar compared to their male contemporaries, but it’s a figure that’s disputed in sources just as often as not. Could it be a misunderstanding as to how we’ve reached that figure? Rebecca Cassells, Associate Professor from the Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre at Curtin University, who has been investigating the issue joined us on the show.
