Genevieve Lacey – composer and recorder virtuoso

Genevieve Lacey joined us live, a celebrated arts advocate, composer, recorder virtuoso and curator of the Sydney Opera House’s cherished Utzon Music series to chat to us about that and the Australia classical music scene. Genevieve’s vast expertise and role as curator make her an ideal figure to help challenge the misconception that classical music isn’t for everyone. The program itself has the energy and innovation you’d expect at venues like Phoenix Central Park — cutting-edge, thought-provoking and inspiring.
Genevieve shares, “It’s a joy to curate this precious chamber music series for 2025. Utzon’s room, where light and water frame sound, is one of the most intimate and beautiful listening spaces in the country. Across the year, musicians from different generations and ancestries bring their classic traditions to vibrant life, nourishing us with the life force that is music. We look forward to welcoming you, and our stellar cast of musicians, many of whom will be in Australia for the first time.”
Next up in the program, they have a cutting-edge act, Bronzewing: with violist Katie Yap and harpsichord master Donald Nicolson, performing on Sunday the 18th of May, so don’t miss it!
