Get Away with Dre: Honeymoon ideas in Australia

This is a special edition of Get Away with Dre; a honeymoon edition to celebrate a wedding that was broadcast live on 2ser on Saturday 3 May.
Congratulations to Christine & Lachlan on their beautiful wedding at the 2ser Studio in Broadway! Christine and Lachlan didn’t have to go far to get married, you don’t have to go far for your honeymoon as well. Check out some honeymoon ideas right here in Australia.
Satellite Island, Tasmania
We spoke about this place in an earlier episode of Get Away and I always thought this would be a great place to have your honeymoon.
If you were planning on a Nordic honeymoon, scratch that idea, we’ve found something closer for you! Satellite Island is a small island, off the south of Tasmania, near Bruny Island, and it’s an utimate secluded luxury.
When you book, you’re not just booking a room, no, you’re booking the whole island.
You get access to all the accommodation on the island, the Summerhouse, the Boathouse and the luxury bell tent. You’ll also get all boat transport to and from the island, sparkling on arrival, an endless supply of wild oysters, gourmet brekky provisions, a stocked pantry with gourmet essentials, kitchen garden, orchard, and toiletries.
What would a day look like on Satellite Island?
The world is your oyster, literally, you can eat all the oysters you want. Having an entire island to yourself, time will stand still for the two of you.
When booking you get complimentary, fishing equipment, kayaks, snorkels, stand-up paddle boards, yoga mats, flippers and board games. There’s also 3 walking tracks you can do on the island.
Take the kayaks or SUP boards out, go fishing on the deck at the Boathouse jetty, shuck wild oysters straight from the sea, and go diving for urchin, abalone and mussels.
At night cook your freshly caught fish over a fire on the pebble beach and stay out for some stunning stargazing at night.
Sal Salis, Western Australia
Located at Ningaloo Reef which is a UNESCO World Heritage-listed destination, Sal Salis is about an hour’s drive south of Exmouth. On the North West Cape in the Cape Range National Park.
This is where the outback, reef and ranges meet and merge into one.
Sal Salis is home of one of the best eco-luxury tourism glamping in Australia. To protect the fragile ecosystem, there are 15 glamping tents and 1 Honeymoon tent that sit 50 metre from the shore line amongst low-lying coastal dunes, making you feel part of the landscape whilst giving you a beach view of the Indian Ocean.
2kms behind the camp lies the limestone range of the Cape Range National Park.
There’s a social camp lounge, where you get your locally sourced, chef-prepared meals.
When you book all your meals are included, all drinks from your open bar, national park fees, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, snorkel gear, wetsuits, and all guided wilderness activities.
Ningaloo Reef is a “fringing reef” which means a small step off the sand takes you the body of the reef.
What would a day look like at Sal Salis?
Pure bliss! You can go on an early morning gorge walk into the Cape Range National Park (Mandu Mandu and Yardie Creek Gorges), you’ll see red kangaroos, echidnas, black-footed rock wallabies and emus on the way.
Do some sea kayaking in the afternoon. A guided paddle across the UNESCO-World Heritage Listed reef where they teach you how to navigate the reef without impacting the ecosystem. A snorkel tour takes your further offshore so you can drop your anchor in the sand and explore the deeper lagoons. The reef is home to more than 500 species of colourful fish, 250 coral species, rays, sea turtles and reef sharks.
In August and October, humpback whales are only metres away from the reef so you might be able to swim with them if you’re lucky. Around this time, you can also go on a separate tour to swim with the whale sharks
Yacht Hire, Whitsunday Islands
A private yacht in Italy? Mi dispiace, ma no… we found something closer for you!
You can be the captain of your own yacht and make your way around Australia’s most beautiful archipelago of islands. One reef is even shaped like a heart, like come on!
You don’t need a licence and you won’t need a passport.
You’ll get briefed before you set sail, but if you don’t trust your seafaring skills you can always hire a skipper. Your boat hire also comes with free snorkel gear.
What would a day look like on a yacht in the Whitsundays?
You’re the captain of your own boat so you’re the boss. It’s just the two of you and 74 tropical islands to explore at your own leisure.
You can stop by Hamilton Island, the largest island to do some exploring and shopping. Go snorkelling at one of many snorkelling sites. The water temperature is always perfect (23 degrees in the winter and 27 degrees in the summer).
Hire some fishing gear and go fishing! Check out the fishing zone areas, catch your own dinner and cook it on your yacht or stop off at a beach and cook it over a fireplace.
