Calls for Tough Legislation on Animal Rights Protests

On Monday, the animal rights group Aussie Farms staged protests across Australia, including chaining themselves to abattoirs and blocking the intersection outside Flinders St Station.

Protestors were arrested, and the Federal Government has called for states to beef up their trespass laws and bring harsh penalties against the protestors.

But do the actions of the protestors warrant this harsh response from the Government?

To discuss the protests in Melbourne, I’m joined by Dr Piero Moraro, Lecturer in Justice Studies at Charles Sturt University and author of the upcoming Civil Disobedience: A Philosophical Overview.

You can read Dr Moraro’s writing on the subject at The Conversation.
